I visited the old city area of Jakarta which is located right in the heart of Jakarta. There I wandered the enchanting streets of the Old City. The atmosphere is filled with a blend of history and modernity, with colonial architecture standing side by side against the backdrop of bustling city life and never-ending economic activity.
I started my journey at Fatahillah Square, surrounded by magnificent buildings that depict the story of the Dutch colonial government in the past. There is also the Jakarta History Museum, with its majestic structure, inviting me to explore its corridors and discover the secrets hidden within its walls. As I stepped inside, the exhibition revealed the city’s rich past, from the spice trade to the struggle for independence.
While walking along the road around Fatahillah Square, I met busy street vendors offering local food. The aroma of Indonesian spices wafted through the air, inviting me to taste the flavors of traditional street food.
I was also amazed at the charm of vintage cafes located in colonial era buildings. A sip of traditional Indonesian coffee in an ancient place allows me to enjoy the atmosphere and reflect on the passage of time in this historic area.
Even at night, a warm atmosphere envelops the Old City, radiating a warm glow on the historic architecture. Fatahillah Square was transformed into a lively gathering place, with street performers and local residents enjoying the evening. Jakarta’s skyline twinkles in the distance, bridging the gap between the city’s storied past and its vibrant present.
Leaving Kota Tua, I took with me echoes of Jakarta’s history, its culinary delights, and the spirit of its peopleāa captivating combination that made my visit to Kota Tua an unforgettable journey through time.
